Leading worship and sharing her story of healing, Bethany Barr Phillips takes eight years of church staff experience to the road with a vision to share the Gospel through worship by way of her new release: Bring This Heart to Life. This full-length worship project birthed a heart in this Mississippi native to dive in head first to what God is laying before she and her team as they share these songs full of Scripture and hope.

Bethany shares, “As the band and I have traveled over the last several years, we have come across so many and were reminded that everyone has their struggles, no matter the age or place in life. So we wanted to address, through Scripture, many of those things we all come against in this world.  Fear, insignificance, hopelessness, whatever, the Holy Spirit is the gift from God to walk with us through this life. We want to tell people Jesus is Who he says He is and, through trusting in Him by Holy Spirit, He will bring your heart to life.”

She has opened for artists such as Audio Adrenaline and Toby Mac, as well as led worship on platforms with speakers like Scott Dawson, David Nasser, and Dr. Jay Strack; through these experiences, her heart for leading worship and seeing God move among His people only becomes greater as her opportunities increase.

In January of 2006, Bethany was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer after miscarrying her first child. Following six months of chemotherapy, she is now living cancer free and is a mother to six year old, Isaiah Jewel, along with her husband, Andy.

Her project “Roots Run Deep” was born out of this trial from Isaiah 61:3c. “So that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” This verse is where God showed His plan to her—He will always be glorified. “I knew that if I was going to make it out alive, I had to be rooted in him. Cancer was not a joy in any way, but I choose to look at it as a journey that took me to a new place in my relationship with Jesus, a place where I had to be real and I’m not looking back.”

The now Tuscaloosa, Alabama, native experienced the devastating F4 tornado as she watched it pass her home in April of 2011. After praying with her band about how to move forward and serve the people who had been affected, she went home and penned the song Show Love.

“Jesus calls us directly in His word to love each other. He even precedes this with ‘by this all men will know.’ The Lord brought this to my mind as I prayed about this tragedy and how I was supposed to be a part of the recovery efforts,” Bethany says about that EP. “He’s called us to love each other and that alone will set us apart. Through His love, we can all come together and all can begin to not only hear the Gospel, but see it moving in our lives as well.”

“Bethany Barr Phillips is the epitome of a worship leader! Based on what I ave witnessed, she leads out of a heart devoted to Christ. With a pristine sound and servant’s heart, Bethany is a joy to work with in events. Any church, conference, or event will be better if she is involved… I know ours have been!”

“Our church loves Bethany and her band! We’ve used them in our student ministry setting, as well as in our Sunday morning gatherings. They are highly skilled, a pleasure to deal with, and (most importantly) authentic Christian people who do a marvelous job of leading people in worship. I highly recommend them!”

– Brett Burleson, Lead Pastor –
Dayspring Baptist Church, Mobile, AL

“Bethany leads from the place she lives, in the presence of God. Passionate, soulful, transparent, spirit led and honest are what makes her a great worship leader.”

– Chris Layton, Student Pastor & Itinerant Worship Leader –
Desoto Hills Baptist Church, Southaven, MS

“Bethany is an amazing woman of God who, as a worship leader, leads people to the throne of Jesus! Besides the fact that she is so talented and has a wonderful voice, she knows that the source of anything good in her is because of Christ. That kind of humility is precious and it allows God to use her for His Glory.

‘Show love’ is a great snapshot of her musical ability and her desire for the world to know Jesus. ‘Your ways sings of the greatness of God and of attributes of His character, yet it also tells the story of His compassion and redemption. All the while confessing that the ways of God are higher than ours, exalting Him to His rightful place on the throne of our lives.”
