Juest wanted to share a few minutes about what the Lord has been constantly reminding me of lately – Prayer… in faith… with boldness… and and audacity to BELIEVE that He will hear and be moved. Like a lot of other things, I’ve heard this entire time as a believer; but I’ve realized over these last two weeks that I’ve been terrible at living in it.
So many times in scripture there is mention of prayer for big things…:
Moses prayed for God to show him His glory (Exodus 33), Hannah prayed & thanked God for a child from her womb after years of infertility (I Samuel 1), David had been living in prayer which resulted in no fear of the giant, Goliath (I Samuel 17), Job constantly convened with the Lord even in his trial that is one of the most devastating in all scripture- I mean, really, there’s a whole book about it – (Job), Solomon prayed for wisdom above all else (I Kings 3)… the list goes on… we haven’t even ventured into the minor prophets, Elijah, or the New Testament disciples… Paul…
One could list forever the amount of prayers offered up in faith through scripture that deals with BIG things. So why do we so often pray for what we think can only ‘really‘ happen or what God definitely might could do -if i do the right things, give, study, love my brother-… notice I just did what a lot of us do: tag the end of the prayer with things I can DO just so God will HAVE to answer my prayer.
My aunt was diagnosed with bladder cancer a few weeks ago. As we began to pray for her as a family, from the very beginning, my daughter, Isaiah, has prayed like this: ‘Jesus, thank You that You healed Aunt Wanda that she would feel better and love You…’ She’s almost five. No one prompted her to say that- she just BELIEVES that Jesus will heal her like He healed me and so many others; it was never a question in her mind. She’s praying in praise that it’s already done.
These last two weeks have been spent ‘remodeling’ my prayer life. I’ve begun to stop asking God for what He might do, and started praising God for what He’s going to as it lines up with the Word. FREEDOM is what it has brought… release… knowing that God is doing the work and I’m just shooting to live by His Word.
So I would challenge you to do the same this week. Quit living with the ‘might’ and start living with the ‘hope that knows’… Hebrews 6:19 – we have this HOPE that anchors the soul… Believe that God can do what He says He can do as it lines up in His Word. Believe that He can move mountains, heal the broken-hearted AND the disease filled. Believe that He can open doors, set your feet upon a rock. His WORD is hope and that hope turns into TRUST which turns into BELIEF that He can do exceedingly and abundantly more that you could ever ask or imagine… By the way, I’m not some great preacher/writer… every bit of that is scripture. It’s what God says about You when you’re in Christ.
And if you’re struggling today with that, just one more:
Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the LORD. Psalm 31:24
So Pray… no really… Pray – out loud…believing that… ‘Let us approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.’ Heb 4:16
